Roughly a year ago I put up my very first post
ever, in which I rambled a lot and might have said something about tying the
metaphorical manifestation of writing to a chair and shoving Ritalin down her
throat and I might have mentioned brownies a couple of times. I’ll admit it was
a strange first post.
I bring this up because a year ago when I launched
Writability, I never imagined that twelve months later I’d have over 100,000
pageviews and so many amazing followers. And I’m not saying that to brag—I just
want to thank you guys, because after putting up my first post I thought, well, if one person reads this and likes it,
it’ll be worth it, and well…you’ve made this experience more than worth it.
I’ve learned so much from this blog, from the fantastic
discussions with you amazing commenters, from forcing myself to think up three
posts a week, even when I was sure I wouldn’t be able to think of anything.
If you’re new to this blog, then I want to welcome you and
say thanks for stopping by. I hope you stick around enjoy interacting with the
Writability community here as much as I do.
If you’ve been a follower and you’ve joined the discussion,
then I want to thank you for your wonderful support. Your input, advice and
opinions have made this experience an incredible one. An extra thanks to Daniel Swensen, Jennifer Bennett, Susan Sipal, Matthew Rowe and Jeremy Feijten for being such
awesome and active community members.
If you’ve been a follower and you haven’t really commented
before, I want to thank you for your silent support, and I hope that you’ll
join the discussion someday soon.
In short if you’re here, reading my words, then you have my
gratitude. All of you are amazing, so thank you. Thank you.
In celebration of Writability’s first birthday I’d like to
share with you the top five most popular posts thus far, as chosen by your
fantastic support:
- Why Writers Must Read
- 5 Writing Myths
- What Makes a Great First Sentence?
- Writing Quickly: A Secret Strategy
- How to Finish Writing a Novel
I couldn’t have done it without you guys. Thank you, thank
you, thank you.

I swear I saw this blog post before, but I guess I might be mixing up my blogs.
100k in one year? With me at about...5k views in nine months, I guess I'll have to keep at it.
I wrote a thank you blog post when I hit 100 posts, but this is a different milestone. :)
Oh, so that's what I was thinking about. Guess I confused myself by taking a few peeks at your archive.
By the way, how do you access the current Disqus format your blog is using? I checked my blog, and my blog seems to have a less streamlined version, if I'm seeing correctly.
No worries! I could understand how the two would be easy to mix up.
I'm actually trying out the beta Disqus 2012 format. You can learn more about it and request an invite here. Hope that helps!
A year already? Congrats! I've loved being a follower of your blog and I'm sure you'll have many great posts to come!
Happy 1st blog birthday! And congrats on your achievements! That's a lot of pageviews. I suddenly feel inferior with my 3000 pageviews lol!
Thank you, Jenny! I can hardly believe it's been a year, myself. It went by so quickly!
Thanks for being such an active part of this community! ^_^
Thank you, Kamille! I hope you don't feel inferior--we all start somewhere and compared to other blogs, my pageviews seem pretty minuscule (there's always a bigger fish, right?). And anyway, it's not about the numbers, it's about the experience. :)
Happy Blog-o-versary! Congrats on one year. :D
Thank you, Tina! ^__^
Congratulations! You always share useful information in your succinct posts. I've only been blogging for six months and your success has inspired me! Keep up the good work!

Not sure if my last message posted. Anyway, congrats!
Happy birthday to Writability! Your blog has so much great advice and motivational inspiration. Thank you for sharing. I'm definitely looking forward to future posts!
Thank you, Julia! I'm thrilled that you've been enjoying my blog and I really appreciate your support! :)
If you posted something on this post...then it appears that my blog ate your comment. If that's the case, sorry! Thanks for the congratulations, though! Much appreciated. ^_^
Thank you so much, Wendy! So glad you've been enjoying Writability and I really appreciate your support!
Aw I got a mention. So sweet. and I'm relatively new here. Happy Birthday to Writability. It has the same birthday as me. I think I'm giving up on the blog writing thing. If I could take over a successful blog, I think I would do fine as I perform infinitely better with an audience, but writing to no one every week just kills my motivation. So it's always good to see a great blog survive! Keep at it.
Of course you got a mention! You've been a wonderful addition to the community, so thank you! Also, Happy (belated) Birthday! ^_^
As for the blog writing without an audience, that's an unfortunate truth to the beginning of any blog. If you're not getting anything out of your blogging experience, then there's definitely no shame to using that energy for something else. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you the best of luck!
Thanks! I think I'll just start one when I'm famous
Sounds like a plan. ^_^
It's nearly unbelievable that this blog is only one year old. It seems so much longer. I guess that's thanks to your activity :-)
Thanks for the mention, although us five are only a small part of the commenters. If I see how many comments you get on some posts. Incredible. Keep it up!
It's hard to keep a blog going, but if you love blogging, you'll survive.
My first blog was in English, and although I liked it, it was rather hard, because I had to search for words all the time which made blogging a very intensive experience.
Since a couple of months, I have a Dutch blog and that's much easier, which makes it even more fun. Just like you, I don't get much reaction, but maybe that will come. And at least some 200 people checked my blog. So that's already nice.
Aaargh and so annoying, I keep having to login through different ways.
It's pretty unbelievable to me that Writability is a year old, but for me it's a different reason--the year went by so quickly I can barely believe it's already been twelve months! Amazing!
And you're very welcome for the mention--you five have been the most active in the community and I like to occasionally let you guys know that your consistent support doesn't go unnoticed. I really do appreciate it. :)
I'm sorry if it's making you log in in different ways...this is a beta system so all the bugs aren't quite worked out yet. :/
It's hard to believe your blog is only a year old! So happy anniversary (even if I'm a little late to the party) and I'm looking forward to lots more from you!
Thank you so much, Leslie! I can hardly believe it's been a year myself (although my surprise is slightly different from yours in that my first year blogging went by very quickly for me ^_^.) Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your support! I really appreciate it!
