How did you find your internships?
I'm going to copy and paste my answer to a similar youtube comment:
This is probably going to be an unexpected answer, but Twitter. First time around, I did apply to internship positions I found onwww.bookjobs.com, but the internship I landed was one I saw an agent tweet about, and basically the same thing happened with the Entangled internship. So. Twitter! :)
Thanks for making this vlog--great insights! I want to do a publishing internship so bad because I want to work in the industry. A remote internship would be fantastic since interning at somewhere like NYC can get pricey. Was it difficult to find a remote internship?
Ghaaa remote publishing industries are so difficult for me to get. I applied to a couple hoping I could take some for credit, but I couldn't get any in time. I did get kind of sad when one agent was interested but needed me to be in New York for part of the semester. Too poor >_>
I'll probably keep trying even after I graduate. Even without college credit, I know it'll be super helpful for me, as it was for you :D
I actually found getting both internships was relatively easy? Sort of. The first one I looked for a couple weeks (I think) before I saw the call on Twitter that led to my eventual internship. The second one I sort of stumbled into by accident, also on Twitter, (which was a really happy accident, because from the start I'd wanted to intern for Entangled). So I didn't think it was overwhelmingly difficult, but I also think it worked out unusually well for me. So yes.
Ah yeah, I never tried to get credit for one (although the first one offered...but at the time I was between schools! heh). I hope you manage to find one, though! I've found that a lot of agents will tweet about it when they're looking for new readers or interns, so it's something to keep an eye out for.
Thanks for the info, I'm definitely going to have to try to apply for some! :)
You're welcome! Good luck! :)
I loved this video! I want to work in publishing and love remote internships despite living in New York since they are great resume builders.
I found mine through twitter/youtube with Patchwork Press http://www.patchwork-press.com/
Thanks! Yes, I totally agree—they can be great for resumes and definitely help you get your foot in the door. They also allow you to get some experience in early on, which is especially great. :)
I hadn't heard of them, but that's good to know!
