Also, it's time to catch up on my reading.
When I get really heavy into revisions, I generally don't read nearly as much as usual, because by the time I'm done working for the day, my brain is pretty tired of words. So I didn't read much of anything since finishing my research books and diving into revisions, despite having quite a few books I'm dying to get into.
Which brings me to this post.
Right now, I'm about halfway through Second Position by Katherine Locke, which I put down for a bit so I could revise, and now am going to dive back into in earnest. Next up on the list is Made You Up by Francesca Zappia which I've been dying to read forever, then More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera, which arrived at my door recently and I'm super psyched about.
From there will be Far From You by Tess Sharpe—another book I've heard loads about and am very eager to read—and then All the Rage by Courtney Summers, which I won in a giveaway (eep!).
After that I have plenty more owned TBR books (including, but not limited to, The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey, Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor, Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas and Heartsick by Caitlin Sinead) that I'm super psyched to read, and also a pre-order of Focus On Me by Megan Erickson which will magically appear on my Nook on July 21st (and be promptly magically devoured by me).
So yeah. Lots of reading. Lots of books. Lots to look forward to.
And now I'm opening up discussion to you guys—what are you reading?

WOOO! Lots of books. That always makes me happy :D
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many great things about All the Rage--def. not for the faint of heart, though. So many of Goodreads friends were in pieces about reading that book. (Given the subject matter, can't say I blame them. But it's good to know a great book could deal with such a subject).
I'm reading a couple of books. I got Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff like two Christmases ago and am only getting around to reading it now. There's been a tonnnn of praise and a tonnn of criticism for the book--that it's awesome, that it's over the top, that it's a nice departure from traditional European fantasy, that it may be bordering on cultural appropriation. It's a complicated thing and I have no idea what side I'm on. All I can say is I love it so far. The writing is so good and the heroine, Yukiko, is such an awesome character, balanced between being a badass and having moments of downfall or failure. I can't wait to continue. And I know he wrote a book with one of the writers from These Broken Stars, and it comes out in October. I know whatever story it has, I am going to love the writing so muchhhh.
I'm also reading Hounded, the first book of the Iron Druid Chronicles. I like it so far because it's really amusing. I'm a little annoyed at how cocky the protagonist is (for a druid that's over 2000 years old, he sure acts like a 21 year old >.>), but some of the side characters are cool, and the mythology it's set up is interesting. Plus there's a talking dog that's adorable.
And last thing--I won a book off a giveaway for a writer I follow on YouTube. It's called Essence by Mandi Lynn. I'm kind of split with it at the moment. It's an interesting concept, but I'm having trouble buying certain aspects/scenes. (And even though I know for a fact it had two professional editors, I am noticing a lot of semicolon errors and some comma splices. It's worrying). I want to review that one soon since that's why it was sent to me. Oh, and I'm reading a tiny book about computers :P Book research!
My TBR list is infinite. xD I've been reading Endsinger by Jay Kristoff since it came out, Sapphique by Catherine Fisher, and Lord of the Rings. What I'm reading right now, in this moment, is Brutal Youth by Anthony Breznican
ReplyDeleteI actually just finished a book last night: STATION ELEVEN, by Emily St. John Mandel. It was so freaking lovely, and I will probably read it again sometime soon. At the same time, I've also been in the middle of A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC by V.E. Schwab, so that's probably what I'm going to be focusing on finishing next.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY hope you enjoy MADE YOU UP. mostly because I haven't read it yet, but I want to, and therefore I hope it's as good a book as everyone's been saying?
TBR piles are supposed to be neverending. I finished The Master Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg (late) last night. I loved this series so much that I pre-ordered her new book Followed by Frost. I'm also reading Becoming Jinn by Lori Goldstein and Listening to the Graceling audiobook.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading a novelization of a TV show I adore. Not exactly the most literary literature I could ever read but I adore it anyway. *sighs contentedly*
ReplyDeleteThe Chaos Walking trilogy by Patrick Ness was incredible. So were The Infernal Devices (though I think maybe you've read them?) Currently reading Vanishing Girls by Lauren Oliver, which I expect to be as good as her other books. Also anything Rainbow Rowell is amazing, but I think you know that already, too. And if you're in the mood for amazing non-YA, Tana French is my favorite writer of all time and everything she writes makes me weep with how wonderful and beautiful it is (I also weep because I'll never be that great of a writer).
ReplyDeleteI'm reading All The Rage and it's reeeeally good so far :-)
ReplyDeleteAt the moment, I'm rereading Little Women. It's one of my favorite classic books, even though I wish it had ended differently.
ReplyDeleteYay books! Yeah, I know All the Rage won't be an easy read, but it sounds like an important one. I've seen Stormdancer around but haven't picked it up myself, and I hadn't heard about that future co-authorship! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYour comment about the immature immortal is funny. I think that's almost always the way with immortal characters in books—they act the way they look rather than the age they actually are.
And you're reading quite a bit at once! I've found I'm able to do that with books in different mental categories (for classes vs. pleasure reading, for example), but so far I tend to drop everything and focus on one with pleasure reading books. But maybe that will change.
I understand the infinite TBR list lol. The one I'm curating on Goodreads is always expanding—these books were chosen because I already own them and intend to read them imminently (but I have many others in my owned TBR list too...).
ReplyDeleteYour reading list sounds, cool though! You're the second one reading something by Jay Kristoff. :)
I've heard SO much about A Darker Shade of Magic! I don't usually read Adult fiction but...it does sound intriguing.
ReplyDeleteAnd I hope I love it too! I've been hearing people rave about it for years and it sounds awesome, so fingers crossed.
Pretty sure my TBR pile is never-ending—the books I mentioned above are just a sampling of ones I already own lol. I haven't read many of the ones you mentioned, but I did love Graceling! Such a great read. :)
ReplyDeleteHey, if you're enjoying it, who cares if it's literary or not? :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't read The Infernal Devices series but I have read most of The Mortal Instruments except the last book, which I'm waiting for a paperback release for (because I have all of the others in paperback). I haven't read any Lauren Oliver, but I have seen Vanishing Girls around and I have to admit the cover is pretty eye-catching. Are you enjoying it?
ReplyDeleteAlso, I may have to check out Patrick Ness. His newest (to be released) was recommended to me and sounds awesome.
Finally, I think you totally have the potential to be as good as any of your favorites. Your writing will never be the same, of course, but it doesn't need to be. It should be reflective of you. :)
Ooooh excellent! :D
ReplyDeleteLittle Women! Wow, that brings back memories. I remember reading that and watching the animated movie when I was a kid...though I don't remember much about it.
ReplyDeleteI liked the Mortal Instruments, a mix of 3-5 star books for me, but The Infernal Devices are now up there with my faves--5 stars all the way! Lauren Oliver is a really beautiful writer, Before I Fall was great, and I also liked the Delirium trilogy. Vanishing Girls is good so far, though a big confusing as it jumps around in time. Patrick Ness was also recommended to me on social media and I almost didn't pick up the first one (The Knife of Never Letting Go) because it sounded so strange, but I'm soooo glad I did. I still need to read his others but he's such a great writer I'm sure I won't be disappointed.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I know I shouldn't go around saying things like that! Perhaps what I should have said was, it will takes years of practice before I ever get that good :)
Finished All The Rage today, here's my goodreads review: Brutal and so relatable that you will just tear through this book. There's a lot to appreciate here, even if you've never been through everything Romy has, the feelings are all pitch perfect. How does this book manage to be so straightforward and yet so layered? I save 5 stars for books that I'll read more than once, I'm already looking forward to next time.
ReplyDeleteSounds excellent! I've just started Made You Up so I'm on my way. :) Yay reading!
ReplyDeleteI was reading Made You Up until the moment I popped it in the mail, must get my own copy!
ReplyDeleteI hope you do! I've been enjoying my read-through so far. It's the kind of book that really makes you think!
