I thought it might be fun to share our writing dreams. They don’t have to be realistic, I just thought it’d be a fun and uplifting exercise to share with you guys. :)
For me, my ultimate writing dream is to be able to make a living doing what I love most—writing. I dream of seeing my books on the shelves, of holding a copy of my book in my hand, of walking into a bookstore and seeing my novel there.
What about you?

I'm only on the first draft of my first novel, so at the moment the dream is just to have written a polished draft that I'm happy with. Beyond that, getting published is far off but it would be incredible! If we're gonna go all out, I'd love to earn enough money to be able to travel to research my future novels (I'm writing historical fiction).
ReplyDeleteOoh, fun! I would like to see a book I've written in a bookstore and to hold it in my hand. I'd like for someone I don't know personally to love my characters (nearly) as much as I do. And (let's go crazy here) I'd love for someone to someday feverishly await the next installment in a series I write.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see one of my books on shelves in bookshops. It'd be really cool to get my work translated into different languages, too. Imagine getting fan mail from all over the world!
ReplyDeleteAnd my biggest dream is to have a long writing career and carry on doing this for as long as I can! :)
In my cooler years, I dreamt about writing Christian fiction and owning my own publishing company. While the publishing company is out of the question, I still dream about having books in a series, like collections of short stories, or a detective series.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love such dreams and daydreams... I often think about my writing dreams and even sharing them aloud (with my own self). So, my short-term dream (now that I'm polishing my MS) is to find an agent and to get published. And my long-term dream is to have my own big readership and fanbase:)) I know it's silly at this point but they say dream big and so I do!
ReplyDeleteOhhh I love the travel dream! I agree—it'd be amazing to be earning enough to be able to travel for novel research (or just travel in general...).
ReplyDeleteAs for your drafting, I wish you all the best! If you have any questions along the way, don't be afraid to ask! :)
I love all of those! Great dreams, Laura—and ones that I think many writers share. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's amazing is when you start to see those readers get to know the characters that you've created. It's such a fun experience! :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, translations! That'd be completely awesome to get international fan mail—not to mention seeing the translated copies of your work must be a really cool experience.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes! Long careers are a perfect dream. :)
That's great! Having a successful series is a fantastic dream. :)
ReplyDeleteI don't think those are silly dreams—I think they're wonderful and totally doable, over time. Dream big!
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to be able to make a living writing what I want to write and editing. I'd love to have collections of essays published, on social and spiritual subjects. And I'd love to publish thriller mystery novels. I have a lot of writing to do before these dreams come true! :-)
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to walk into a place I've never been before and listen to two people I've never seen before talking about my stories.
ReplyDelete"Have you read [enter story name here]?" one asked.
"Yeah, it was nice."
Just that. No money involved. I don't care how they got to know my stories, just knowing that my stories are known to the whole world.
Yes! Making a living writing is (unsurprisingly) a big one amongst the writing community. I also think it's great that you've got multiple writing goals to look forward to. Thanks for sharing, Tina, and good luck with your writing!
ReplyDeleteI love that! I so love that. What a great one. Thanks for sharing, Chris!
ReplyDeleteYour dream summed up mine to a t! And I would add getting to visit bookstores and libraries as a published author too. It wouldn't matter if three people were there or 30, it'd just be fun to get to go and talk about my book and writing to others. That's the dream anyway! =)
ReplyDeleteI second this!
ReplyDeleteMovies and TV. As long as I can keep writing books, no matter what, the thing I really want to see is a movie or TV show based on one of my books. I love writing stories but I am a much bigger fan of movies than books. I'm a very visual person. Even if it's a bad movie I can talk about all the things they did wrong for years to come. I'm so geared up for this idea that I often write short screenplays of scenes as well as the novel. I've already planned out opening and closing title sequences for my next novel. I'm hoping to use them as book trailers if I can get it made
